BFA Exhibition Fall 2014

December 1 - December 13, 2014
Reception, December 12, 2014

The UAB Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition represents the culmination of a diverse and intensive program of undergraduate study in the UAB Department of Art and Art History.

Rob Clifton’s expansive mixed media installations explore the meditative qualities of human cognition through works that evoke the power and beauty of the natural world. His installations incorporate suspended images of tree branches, collaged newspaper, and projected light to create enigmatic environments that provoke spiritual experiences.

Alejandra Garbutt’s poster designs seek to provide a platform for positive social change utilizing affirmative texts and images that inspire and motivate. She incorporates female figures into her designs, which are adorned with textile-like patterns and conjure images of the feminine divine.

Nathan Truitt’s narrative ceramic sculptures examine intimacy and the challenges of human relationships. His provocative figurative works pair male and female characters placed atop urban settings, while his palette of contrasting slips and glazes draws on a neo-expressionist figurative tradition.

All three of the artists focus on diverse explorations of human consciousness, presenting work that references both internal and external realities while invoking both the mythic as well as the archetypal.
