Are you looking for a way to store files easily while also being secure? Look no further than Microsoft OneDrive.

OneDrive is a cloud-based storage service offered in the Microsoft 365 suite. All UAB faculty, staff, and students receive 5TB of storage for free, with OneDrive serving as a hub for collaboration. When you use this storage space, you can be assured your files are safe and secure.

According to Microsoft, users can save more than 300 different types of files in the cloud system. All you need is a web browser like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Once you are logged in to OneDrive, visit the Upload tab and select Upload>File or Upload>Folder, depending on what you need to move into the cloud.

Since you’re a part of the UAB community, you can save files directly from your desktop. All you have to do is select Save As, then select Online Locations, and from there you can save it right to your OneDrive. Once your files are in, you can start editing straight from the cloud. If you click out of the file while editing in the web browser don’t freak out, your files automatically sync so nothing is lost.

With OneDrive you have full access to your files and can share them with your coworkers or friends. Microsoft even lets you control who can view and who can edit whenever you want. Check out the manage access tab the next time you go to share an item. As the file owner, you have full access to control the permissions of others.

Microsoft takes security seriously, just like you. Which is why they have several ways to keep your information safe and secure. PC folder backups sync to multiple folders on your device to your OneDrive. This allows your folders to stay protected but easily accessible from any device you use. If there is a chance that your account has been hacked and tampered with, OneDrive is equipped to handle it. The security feature, ransomware detection, notifies users when OneDrive files have been attacked. Once you’ve gotten the notification OneDrive will give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve the issue.

When you use OneDrive, you are not only freeing up space on your devices but you’re making the conscious decision to protect your information. OneDrive lets users work on files right where they left on and even allows for real-time collaboration with coworkers or classmates.
