The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) hosted its 112th annual meeting March 11-16, 2023 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, Louisiana, where members of UAB Pathology represented the department in full force to present various topics of research. This year's meeting was held both in-person and online.

On Sunday, March 12, our team hosted a booth at the Fellowship Fair, featuring information about our program's opportunities. Faculty, staff and trainees were present to speak with interested applicants. Brandi McCleskey, M.D., presented "Anatomic Findings in Drug Overdose" to the National Association of Medical Examiners.

On Monday, March 13, George Netto, M.D., Robert and Ruth Anderson Endowed Chair, introduced the long course, "A Primer in Precision Pathology: Genomics, AI and Immuno-Oncology." Daniel Atherton, M.D., Paul Benson, M.D., and Virginia Duncan, M.D., presented the short course, "Modern Autopsy Practice, Academic, Medicolegal, and System-Wide Implications." Goo Lee, M.D., Ph.D., gave the platform presentation, "Tumor Deposits in Esophageal Adenocarcinoma: What Do We Know About Them?" UAB Pathology members and friends gathered to attend the departmental reception after conference activities on Monday evening at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Parish.

Poster sessions continued throughout the week until the conference conclusion on Thursday, March 16. Poster sessions featured 12 posters in categories ranging from racial disparity in autopsy to nodular regenerative hyperplasia to communication efforts within the department. 

Tuesday featured a platform presentation, "Clinicopathological and Molecular Characterization of Large Nested and Nested Subtypes of Urothelial Carcinoma of the Upper Urinary Tract: An International Multi-Institutional Study," including authors George Netto, M.D., Darshan Chandrashekar, Ph.D., and Sofia Cenete-Portillo, M.D. On Wednesday, George Netto, M.D., presented the long course, "Next Generation Pathology: Technological Advances in Anatomical Pathology."
