Joseph 400Dr. Keith Lloyd’s retirement celebration honored his long career advancing the field of urology.

On April 30 at The Country Club of Birmingham, colleagues and friends gathered to celebrate the almost 50 years of service of L. Keith Lloyd, M.D. Guests enjoyed dinner, a slide show and remembrances of a physician who made a remarkable positive impact on the Urology program at UAB. James Bryant, M.D. provided a retrospective of his dedication and diligence.

Dr. Lloyd began his training at Tulane Medical School and has been on the faculty at UAB since 1974.

When he first took the position as an assistant professor, he was one of two urologists at UAB—a number that has now risen to 27 including multiple subspecialties and researchers. Since then he has served as a clinician, teacher, and mentor, furthering the growth of the department and training the next generation of leaders. During his tenure, he witnessed tremendous advancements in the field of urology which helped the Division of Urology grow into its own department. “What I enjoyed about being at UAB then was that we were in a constant phase of forward progress and growth,” Lloyd said.

He was so integral to UAB Medicine’s success that he received the Charles Anderson Family Endowed Chair in Urology, which allowed Dr. Lloyd to accomplish critical research while continuing to recruit top-tier faculty to UAB.Dr. Lloyd Retirement Celebration

To honor Dr. Lloyd's service, the Department of Urology has established The Lloyd Society to support the Keith Lloyd, M.D., Resident Meeting Endowed Support Fund. The Society will provide continued funding to help support residents attending research and educational meetings. In this way, his legacy of faithful service will continue.

As one of the longest-serving employees of UAB, Lloyd’s service will always be remembered. In fact, Lloyd has been appointed to emeritus professor.

The evening of celebration ended with closing remarks from Dean Assimos, M.D., and Joesph David, M.D., The Lloyd Society's first members. Honor Dr. Lloyd by becoming a member today.
