Wood FergusonUAB Department of Urology Assistant Professors Kyle Wood, M.D. and Jed Ferguson, M.D., Ph.D. have been declared board-certified and admitted as a diplomate of the American Board of Urology. 

To become board certified, a urologist must have graduated from medical school, completed an approved urologic residency program, and passed the ABU Qualifying Examination and ABU Certifying Exam. 

Dr. Wood joined UAB Urology in July 2016. He completed his undergraduate degree at Brown University, graduating with honors. He then attended medical school at the University of Massachusetts and completed his residency at Wake Forest University. Dr. Wood is fellowship-trained in endourology with a primary focus on kidney stone disease.

His surgical expertise is in complex kidney stone disease and surgeries. He is a trained open, endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeon. Dr. Wood and nephrology have one of the only multidisciplinary metabolic kidney stone clinics in the Southeast. The focus of this clinic is on the workup of kidney stone formers and implementing dietary, medical and lifestyle modifications to prevent future kidney stones.

He is an AUA research scholar and is conducting kidney stone research. His focus is on the metabolic pathways that lead to kidney stone disease, specifically evaluating the role of obesity in kidney stone disease. His research has basic, translational, and clinical projects.

Dr. Ferguson earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He also completed his residency at UNC. Dr. Ferguson is fellowship-trained in urologic oncology.

He is a surgeon-scientist and urologic oncologist with a busy clinical practice and basic/translational research program. Clinically, his focus is on the treatment of patients with cancers of the bladder, prostate, kidney, ureter, penis, and testis. His research focuses on a better understanding of the molecular drivers of bladder cancer, with the hope of developing and delivering new therapies to patients.
