The International Bazaar, an annual cultural diversity experience by students and community members at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is set for Wednesday, Jan. 31.
The free event is from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Hill Student Center Ballroom. Featured will be a variety of dance performances from Afro-beat to Asian fusion, and a performance by Miss UAB 2018 Vishwada Gunda, as well as trivia, henna, calligraphy and other activities presented by student groups.Participants will include both campus and community groups.
Participating restaurants include Red Sea, Makarios, Al’s Deli and Grill, Nabeel’s Cafe, Delta Blues Hot Tamales, Lichita’s Paletas, Cantina, Tropicaleo, Red Pearl, Bayle’s Catering, and more. Campus Dining will sponsor a cooking demo by its in-house chefs.
The International Bazaar is sponsored by the Social Justice Advocacy Council and Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs. It is part of UAB Community Week.
The International Bazaar allows students to be exposed to different cultures and identities in an informal yet engaging manner, and helps foster a stronger sense of community on campus, says participant and organizer Janaki Kher.
