Rebecca Massey, a sophomore biology major, plans to pair undergraduate student mentors from UAB with underprivileged high school students from Birmingham City Schools.
They're out to change the world.
Twenty-one UAB students will represent the institution at the Clinton Global Initiative University from April 1-3 at the University of California, Berkeley. Working individually and in teams, the students have made 12 Commitments to Action — projects with specific, measurable steps to address challenges in four CGI U focus areas: education, poverty alleviation, peace and human rights, and public health.
The students represent four schools and 12 fields of study. Fifteen participants are students in the UAB Honors College, and two of the three graduate students are Honors College graduates. Schools represented include the College of Arts and Sciences, Public Health, Engineering and Health Professions.
