UAB Hospital has received the Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ from Healthgrades. The award recognizes hospitals that provide an overall outstanding patient experience, defined as the sum of all interactions, shaped by a healthcare organization’s culture, that influence patients’ perceptions across the continuum of care.
UAB Hospital was one of only 439 hospitals in the nation named to the list and one of only three in Alabama. Healthgrades evaluates patient experience performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from a 32-question survey of the hospital’s own patients. Hospitals in the top 15 percent with the highest overall patient experience scores are recognized as Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients.
The surveys measure experiences such as communication with doctors or nurses, pain management, information on medications and discharge planning, as well as cleanliness and quietness. The methodology uses Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient survey data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
“We are proud of our commitment to providing an outstanding patient experience every day to every patient,” said Anthony Patterson, senior vice president for inpatient services at UAB Hospital. “That commitment extends throughout every aspect of our operations, from clinicians and care teams to departments such as maintenance, environmental services or the business office. Every one of our 10,955 employees shares in this recognition of a job well done.”
