Nicole Rodriguez, a junior international studies and political science major in the University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and Sciences, has been selected as one of only 15 students nationwide to participate in the 2015 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program.
Rodriguez is the first student at UAB to be named a Rangel Scholar.
The Rangel Program is a collaborative effort between Howard University and the U.S. State Department. The undergraduate summer enrichment program is designed to enhance students’ skills, knowledge and understanding about U.S. foreign policy.
Rodriguez, also a student in the UAB Honors College’s Global and Community Leadership Honors Program and a UAB Ambassador, will spend six weeks learning about current issues and trends in international affairs, obtaining a greater understanding of career opportunities, enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers.
Rangel Scholars receive a stipend and full funding to study in Washington, D.C., visit federal agencies, and meet with nongovernmental organizations and foreign diplomats.
