This year, the UAB Staff Council has partnered with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) to support their annual Christmas Present Drive. Because no child should be left out at Christmas, CASA of Jefferson County organizes and conducts an annual gift drive enabling individuals, families, churches and other groups to provide Christmas gifts or winter clothing for needy and deserving kids in Family Court cases whose legal custodians simply cannot afford them.

DHR (Department of Human Resources), together with many supporting organizations, provides limited assistance with Christmas gifts but only for kids in DHR custody (foster children). More than half of the children involved in CASA’s Family Court cases are not in DHR Custody but instead are in the custody of grandparents, other family members, or family friends. These kids are often left out at Christmas because DHR generally does not provide gifts for them, and their custodians are often unable to afford this extra expense. Teenagers in the custody of DHR usually get very little, if anything, for Christmas.

We need your help to give these children a Christmas they'll remember... for the right reasons.

About CASA

CASA's mission is to ensure that every abused, neglected and abandoned child in Alabama has a competent, caring volunteer to act as their advocate. A CASA is often the child's only voice in court.

The Angel Tree

Who are the children?

Children in Family Court can be any age, from birth up till the age of 18.

The children in our Angel Tree range in age from 3 months to 17 years.

What do they want?

Some children have asked for winter clothing, or underwear. Some want a baby doll, others would like a bicycle, dress-up clothes, or bedding. Go take a look at the gift requests, and see what you'd like to provide.

How can we help?

Individuals
Individuals can choose items fitting their hearts and budgets. Everything you choose will help a child find joy at Christmas.
Groups
You might want to partner with someone else to provide a bigger item, such as a bicycle, or maybe your department might choose to sponsor a child, providing all gifts.

Please help us ensure every child has gifts. We want to make this Christmas special for them.
