UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT BIRMINGHAM!

To help make your transition to on-campus living as smooth as possible, we have gathered some basic information for move-in.

Move-in Days:  August 21-25, 2024

• Please be patient: around the residence halls, traffic will be heavy during the day. Some roads are narrowed or one way. Please consider traffic as you plan your route.
• Before coming to campus, you will receive an email with directions about completing the housing training module. It must be complete, or you will not be allowed to check-in.
• Students will sign up for a move-in time by logging into myHousing. You will receive an email the first week of August with instructions.
• We are unable to provide volunteers during move-in; a limited number of hand trucks and carts will be provided, but we encourage you to bring your own hand truck if available.
• Students will have 20-30 minutes to unload their car. All cars must be moved to the parking deck once unloaded; one person must stay with the vehicle while others unload. Set up may take as long as you need, but please be aware that other students will need elevators for moving in so consider using the stairs if possible.
• If you plan on moving in on or after the first day of classes, please email us at studenthousing@uab.edu.

Early Move-In

If you are a part of a special group or organization, you might be moving in early.

Someone from your group or organization will communicate with you about your arrival date and time.

What to Bring

Make sure all items are packed in boxes or reusable totes and are clearly labeled with your name, residence hall, and room number. You can find a checklist of things to bring and what not to bring in our Move In Guide linked above.

Parking

Vehicles with a few small or no items should park in the 16th Street Deck and rejoin your party at your hall. Once you have unloaded your car you will also park in the 16th Street Parking Deck. Detailed instructions about traffic flows and parking for move in day will be sent in early August.

Move-In Map

If you are residing on campus in Gold, Camp, Blazer, or McMahon Halls and moving on campus Wednesday, August 21 – Sunday, August 25, a campus map outlining the traffic flow is linked here: Fall 2023 Move In Map. Please review before arriving to campus.
Move-in traffic will approach west campus from I-65 and will blend with typical morning and evening commute traffic; students entering campus from I-65 should stay in the right lane down University Boulevard approaching 16th Street South.
