Aging in Focus: Constance Wang
Constance Wang was born in Ji-Long, Taiwan, in 1925, and named Chiu-Pao, or "Autumn Treasure." But girls were not highly valued in the culture; the family matriarch stepped in and took her away to be adopted by neighbors. The years passed. Wang got married at 25 and worked as a calligrapher. In 1978, her son Michael, a physician, married an American and moved to the United States. Then, in 1981, he had a daughter, Laura. So Wang came to America, too—to dote on her grandchild, a new treasure she named Ying Ying, or "Luster of Precious Jade."
