UAB’s campus is home to more than 35 public works of art. The UAB Reporter recently mapped the collection along three two-mile trails, each of which takes about 30 minutes to walk. The trails can be viewed on a specialized Google Map, created by the UAB Reporter with help from the Office of Risk Management and the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts.

    Walking Meetings at UAB

Take a page from the UAB School of Education and Human Sciences and integrate a culture of wellness in your workplace. Through a committee dedicated to promoting available wellness offerings, leadership that supports movement in the workplace and a culture that encourages wellbeing, SOE staff members have taken steps to encourage physical activity within the school — utilizing walking meetings, creating indoor and outdoor walking trails for its facilities, and more.

Tips for starting your own Walking Meetings
    • For phone conversations that don't require you to be in front of a computer, suggest instead a walking conversation.
    • Take a “walk and think” break for 10 minutes for help with additional energy or jumpstarting creative ideas.
    • When the weather is bad, try walking in place, taking an inside stretch break or a walk around your building.
