A first-time freshman applicant is a current high school senior or one who has recently graduated from high school/earned a GED and has never enrolled in a two or four year college or university.

The admission application fee for veterans applying to UAB is waived. Please provide Veteran Services with a copy of your VA form DD-214 or a copy of your Active Duty orders via email at

Domestic (U.S.) Applicants
Domestic applicants are US citizens or lawful permanent residents who hold a Permanent Resident Card (green card). Lawful permanent residents will be asked to upload a copy of their green card during the application process.

International applicants are citizens or permanent residents of a country other than the United States. International applicants who are requesting F-1 or J-1 visa eligibility will be required to provide evidence of financial support via a Financial Affidavit. International Student and Scholar Services advises international students in matters of immigration, federal and state taxation, and orientation to the UAB and Birmingham communities.

Readmission Applicants are previous UAB students interested in returning to a graduate program previously enrolled in. These applicants may be eligible for the streamlined Readmission Application.
Learn MoreNon-Degree Applicants
Students who do not wish to pursue a graduate degree at UAB or who wish to begin graduate study before being admitted to a degree program can apply as a graduate non-degree seeking student. Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for federal financial aid.
