Jennifer Philpot

Jennifer Philpot, Senior Director of Development in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, has been announced as the William S. Roth Outstanding Fundraising Executive at this November’s National Philanthropy Day ceremony, presented by the Alabama chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

“This is the highest honor the AFP can award to a fundraising professional, and I’m thrilled to see our team member being celebrated by our community—a high honor for UAB!” said Megann Cain, Assistant Vice President for Development.

Philpot has 24 years of fundraising experience, including positions with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Vanderbilt University, and the St. Vincent’s Foundation, where she directed fundraising operations for Ascension St. Vincent’s Health System’s five hospitals and ambulatory care network.

A UAB alumna, Philpot earned her Executive Master of Science in Health Administration degree in 2007, and she has used her world-class training to lead a team of dedicated fundraisers in the Heersink School of Medicine. Philpot’s expertise and professionalism have been vital assets to the Departments of Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Pathology since her return to UAB in June 2021.

In addition to her professional duties, Philpot has also served on the boards of the Community of Hope Health Clinic, the Camp Bridges Foundation, and Leadership Vestavia Hills, as well as volunteering her time with the Shelby County Humane Society, the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation, and several other nonprofits.

Philpot was nominated for the award by the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation, which has raised more than $1.5 million for gynecologic oncology research at UAB since 2004.

“Jennifer’s commitment to medical fundraising is second to none,” said Ashley Thompson, the foundation’s executive director. “Jennifer is constantly striving to learn, grow, and assist others in their professional development. She is a valuable asset to the community not only through her fundraising skills, but also through her commitment and passion to help others.”

This year’s National Philanthropy Day luncheon will take place Friday, November 3, at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham.
