We are excited to share that Katie McDowell has been promoted to Executive Director of Advancement Communications and Donor Relations.

Katie joined UAB Advancement in October 2019 as Director of Communications. She was promoted to Senior Director in 2020 and acquired the Donor Relations and Engagement team in the fall of 2020.

“This promotion recognizes Katie for the time she has spent growing and developing our team, structure, systems, processes, and data, which is leading to a more efficient and effective communication effort,” Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives Tom Brannan said. “I also appreciate Katie’s can-do and collaborative attitude and personality that has helped us build relationships across campus.”

Before joining Advancement, Katie served as a reporter, editor, and general manager for different news organizations for a decade.

“The team and structure she has put together is already having a positive impact both internally and externally on our mission and has positioned us for even greater success in the days ahead,” Brannan said.
