During the period the university is closed for the holidays, we want to ensure that any donor needing assistance with a year-end gift will have adequate information to allow them to contact a member of the Office of Advancement. Outlined below are the procedures we will follow for handling any year-end gifts. Important Dates

  • Monday, December 25 & Tuesday, December 26: UAB closed
  • Friday, December 29: Stock market closes at 3:00 p.m. CST.
  • Friday, December 29: Gift Records office closes at 5:00 p.m. CST.
  • Monday, January 1 & Tuesday, January 2: UAB closed
  • Sunday, December 31: Checks must be dated and envelopes postmarked by a mail carrier on or before this date to receive potential 2023 tax credit.
  • Sunday, December 31 at 11:59 p.m.: Deadline to make an online contribution and receive potential 2023 tax credit.
  • Monday, January 8: All year-end mail must be delivered to Gift Records by 5:00 p.m. CST

Because all year-end gifts must be received (and credit cards processed) by December 31st, we highly recommend that donors be directed to go online to make a gift at uab.edu/onlinegiving or your specific school giving page. Remember, online processing is real time, so gifts transacted online by 11:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, December 31 will meet the year-end processing requirement. Any credit card gifts subsequently received will be 2024 gifts.

If donors would still prefer to mail their gifts to us, please encourage them to mail these gifts directly to Gift Records well before December 31st. Checks that are not mailed must be received by a UAB employee by 11:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, December 31st. The markets close for 2023 securities donations Friday, December 29th at 3 p.m. CST. We request that checks be mailed to Gift Records at our address below; however, if they are received by someone in your office, we ask you deliver those checks to UAB Gift Records the next business day. All year-end mail must be delivered to Gift Records by 5 p.m. CST Monday, January 8th.

If assistance outside of normal business hours is needed to help fundraisers and donors with year-end gifts, Gift Records will be available via cell phone during the following times:
