UAB Chemistry student association recognized as one of the top in the nation

The UAB Student Affiliates American Chemical Society is among the top 22 percent of all ACS undergraduate chapters in the nation.

chemistry joomlaThe UAB Student Affiliates American Chemical Society is among the top 22 percent of all ACS undergraduate chapters in the nation. The American Chemical Society student chapter at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has been selected to receive an Outstanding award by its parent ACS organization. This award places the UAB Student Affiliates American Chemical Society in the top 22 percent of all ACS undergraduate chapters nationwide.

“We have known for a long time that the UAB Chemistry SAACS provides outstanding service to UAB, the chemistry department and the Birmingham community throughout the year,” said Richard A. Dluhy, Ph.D., chair of the UAB Department of Chemistry. “It’s gratifying to know that the ACS also recognizes their hard work.”

The UAB SAACS will be recognized at the 257th ACS National Meeting in Orlando, Florida. More than 400 chapters submitted reports to The Society Committee on Education, where 69 chapters were presented as Outstanding. ACS student chapters are organizations for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in chemical sciences. Programming and activities offered through the organization help prepare members for successful careers.
