Board Member
Donna Andrews is the Program Manager for the University Honors Program (UHP), a Specialized Program in the UAB Honors College where she has served under two Directors, Dr. Ada Long (Founding) and Dr. Mike Sloane (Current). As Program Manager, she works with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and the general community in relation to human resources, financial and budgetary management, study away, scholarships, mentoring, and event planning.
Ms. Andrews holds an Associate of Science degree in Court Reporting, a Bachelor’s degree in Justice Sciences, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, with the latter two degrees from UAB.
She served 16 years in the UAB Department of Physics, 2 years in the UAB Human Resources Child Development Center, and 23 years with the University Honors Program. She is a member of the UAB Benevolent Fund Council, serving as a member on the Designation Review Board that identifies and serves different non-profit agencies through the UAB Benevolent Fund Council.
Ms. Andrews is the 2016 recipient of the Early Medical School Acceptance Program (EMSAP) Award for Outstanding Mentor; the 2016 recipient of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Award for Administrative Excellence; and the 2019 recipient of the Commission on the Status of Women Outstanding Staff Member. In 2018, Dr. Ada Long established a scholarship in recognition of Ms. Andrews’ long-standing commitment at UAB (the Donna Andrews Honors Scholarship) to support UHP African American students from rural and urban Alabama.
Ms. Andrews considers herself fortunate to work with UAB students, faculty, and staff for over 40 years. She is very proud of the UAB’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as its desire and passion to make a difference in the world through knowledge and education.
