Scottie Y. McClaney, a Stillman College alumna with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, also holds a 2013 Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is pursuing a Doctor of Public Administration. Her professional journey includes various leadership roles, culminating in her passionate commitment as the Founder and CEO of the Peek-A-Boo Vision Care Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to providing eye exams and eyeglasses to children in underserved communities. This aligns with her broader goal of enhancing life quality in Birmingham through active community engagement.
A 2020 Emerge America alumna, Scottie champions increasing the number of Democratic women in leadership roles. Her civic involvement extends to her current role as Chairwoman of the Birmingham Zoning Board of Adjustment and a member of the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board, alongside her past appointments to the Birmingham Downtown Redevelopment and Birmingham Parking Authority Boards. Furthermore, she serves as Vice President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham and is a state board member for the League of Women Voters of Alabama.
Scottie is affiliated with several notable organizations, including the Alabama Democratic Women, the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. (Birmingham Chapter), the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, collecting magnets, and bowling.
