Board Member
Wes Dismuke is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. From an early age, he was inspired to be a positive force in his community and help others in any way that he can.
He attended Birmingham City Schools, as well as John Carroll High School. In high school Wes excelled both academically and athletically.
After high school, Wes enrolled in LaGrange College, where he studied Political Science and Sociology. During college, Wes began to realize his love for service. While in college, he served in Student Government, Black Student Union, and volunteered throughout Troup County Georgia. Wes excelled in the classroom, earning an induction into Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, and being awarded for his senior research thesis.
After earning his bachelor’s degree, Wes enrolled in the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While in this program, Wes was inducted in Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society, the national Public Affairs Honor Society. He was also inducted into UAB’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, an honor designated for the top 10 percent of graduate students.
Wes currently studies International Policy and Practice at George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs.
Wes now works for Birmingham City Schools as a History and Academy of Law Teacher at Ramsay High School.
In addition to his employment and studies, Wes is also heavily involved in the Greater Birmingham community. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Vulcan, Birmingham Committee on Foreign Relations, and the UAB MPA Alumni Board. Wes is also a Member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and has served as the community service chairman and is currently a member of the scholarship committee of the Mu Psi Lambda Chapter.
Wes is a man of faith. He attends church regularly. He also enjoys sports, fitness, and reading.
