Adjunct Professor
Dr. Ackerson is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist with twenty-five years of experience providing clinical services to a diverse patient population including TBI, forensic, neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, ASD, LD), demyelinating disorders, epilepsy, neurofibromatosis, hypoxia, toxic exposures, and complex psychiatric conditions as well as rare genetic and neurological disorders. He consults to governmental, healthcare, academic, and athletic agencies and organizations.
As Chair of the Alabama Statewide Sports Concussion Taskforce, a member of the Alabama Board of Examiners, former Director of Psychology for Children’s Hospital, and former Director of Pediatric Neuropsychology at UAB he is familiar with many practical professional and ethical opportunities and challenges that psychologists face but are not always trained to deal with, enabling him to provide unique supervisory opportunities. Dr. Ackerson teaches the Neuropsychological Assessment for the UAB Medical Psychology graduate students and accepts them on a selective basis to work under him in his clinic. He also advises and consults on research and public health initiatives both locally and nationally.
