Karim Abu-Omar (PhD 2001) is a faculty member at the Institute of Sport Science and Sport (ISS) of Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany).
He is also head of the WHO Collaborating Center for Physical Activity and Public Health at the ISS.
Dr. Abu-Omar’s primary research focus is on the promotion of health and well-being through physical activity. He is engaged in a number of national and international research projects that touch on this issue, and is consulting the European Union, WHO, and other organizations on strategies for physical activity promotion. Currently, his work includes projects on:
- the development of German recommendations for physical activity promotion
- defining good practice criteria for obesity prevention programs in schools
- reviewing evidence for the cost-effectiveness of interventions for the promotion of physical activity
