Philip Alan Gibson (PhD 2015) is a Senior Analytics Consultant at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

In addition to a PhD in Medical Sociology, Dr. Gibson holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

His master’s work focused on socioeconomic inequality and the geography of foreclosure rates following the 2008 economic crisis. His interest in medical sociology began with researching socioeconomic status and mental health, with an emphasis on sex and gender. His most recent research focuses on the concept of social psychological health as a product of the interaction between individuals and their social context, with implications for the well-being of both.

Dr. Gibson’s current work as a Healthcare Analyst focuses on healthcare cost and utilization trends, program effectiveness, and interactive data visualization. He is currently developing tools to leverage big data for research, analysis, and reporting.
