Dr. Berkow is Professor and Vice-Chairman of Pediatrics with primary appointment in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Berkow received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and graduated from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1976.  He completed residency training in Pediatrics at the University of Chicago in 1979 and then spent two years with the Indian Health Service in Gallup, New Mexico.  Dr. Berkow completed Fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the Riley Children’s Hospital at Indiana University.  While a fellow, Dr. Berkow was an American Cancer Society Scholar and a National Cancer Institute Research trainee.  Dr. Berkow joined the faculty at UAB in 1984, and has been the Vice-Chair of Education for the Department of Pediatrics since 1994.  Dr. Berkow is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. He is the Director of fellowship training for the division.  Dr. Berkow’s research interest is in the area of curriculum development and evaluation methodology in medical education.  He is a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners
