About the Program

According to the World Health Organization, 15 million more health workers are needed by 2030. With this certificate, you can gain foundational knowledge of the field of public health and help meet this growing worldwide need.

This 17-hour certificate is built around the MPH Core, which is based on the Evidence-Based Public Health framework. This core set of courses builds skills in all critical areas of public health, including public health and health care systems; planning and promotion to promote health; as well as policy, leadership, communication, and systems thinking. Students also select one elective course from all available master’s-level courses to round out their training. Certificate students may apply for the MPH within the UAB School of Public Health and if admitted, the 17 credit hours will be counted towards the completion of the degree program.
