About the Program

Interested in a research-oriented career in the public health and medical industry? Our coordinated MSPH/MD program can give you the clinical skills and research experience you need for a position in academic research that’s centered around science, health services and population health outcomes so you can help overcome the health and wellness challenges facing our communities today.

Because this degree is offered in conjunction with the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, you must first be admitted to the UAB Heersink School of Medicine before applying to the School of Public Health. Once accepted to the program, we’ll train you in both biostatistics and epidemiology as well as areas such as outcome measurement, cost analysis and effectiveness, and health economics. We’ll also give you a foundation in public health that’s centered around an evidence-based public health model. Your MPH courses can be completed online, and 12 credit hours will be shared with your MD program to help you finish your degree in a timely manner. To learn more about the MD program, visit the UAB School of Medicine website.
