About the Program

Are you ready to move beyond your role as a teacher and become more involved in instructional leadership? We can give you the knowledge and skills you need to become a leader in your building or district level. Prepare for a career as a principal, assistant principal, teacher leader, faculty department chair, curriculum leader, and other administrative positions. This degree can also lead to Alabama Class A certification in Instructional Leadership.

Before you begin, you should understand that we believe that real-world experience, as well as networking, are critical to your education. For that reason, we've incorporated numerous opportunities for both into your curriculum. It's also why every one of our courses are offered only in a face-to-face setting—however we do schedule them all after 5 p.m. to accommodate your busy schedule. Your classes will include Data Driven Decision Making for School Improvement, Supervision and Mentoring of Instructional Staff, and Legal and Ethical Foundations for School Leadership, among others. During your final term, you'll complete a residency, which will give you invaluable experience as you launch your career as an educational leader. We also offer a Post-Master’s Certification program for teachers who wish to add a Class A certification in Instructional Leadership. To qualify, you will need to have a master’s degree, Class A certification in an instructional or instructional support area, and a minimum of three years teaching experience.
