About the Program

Are you a UAB graduate student who wants to make a difference in health outcomes for people around the world? We can teach you about critical issues in global health studies. This certificate can help prepare you for a career in project management, program creation and implementation, consulting, and more.

To begin, you'll need to determine your course of study. This will include an approved global health studies core course as well as four electives. You can participate in field studies at the UAB Sparkman Center for global health studies or take other public health courses that have a global health component. As you earn the certificate, you'll learn about epidemiology and disease control, health systems management, disabilities, and evidence-based policy and practice. In the end, you should have the knowledge you need to analyze the relationship between global health and development, as well as appraise global health challenges and healthcare systems. Plus, we’ll teach you the important skills necessary for program design, monitoring, and evaluation.
