If you enjoy studying materials—and learning how to make new and better ones—then you have a pretty good handle on the basics of materials science. Now get the advanced education you need for a career in materials research, industry, or academia.

Our program is specifically designed to give you the diverse education that will be so important for you in the real world. First, we established it by bringing together our faculty at the UAB Department of Materials Science and Engineering with faculty from both the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama in Huntsville's materials engineering departments. Then, we created separate paths to fit different educational backgrounds. For instance, if you have a bachelor's degree, you'll have different requirements than a student who enters with a master's. Finally, no matter what track you're on, you'll research and defend a dissertation in order to complete the program.
