About the Program

When you're in private practice, you don't just need to be a skilled physician—you also need business know-how. At UAB, we have a thorough understanding of both, and we've developed a dual degree program specifically to pass those skills on to you.

How do we help you balance the two? First, we understand your medical studies will keep you busy. Your curriculum will include introductory instruction to clinical medicine, intensive studies of organ systems, neuroscience courses, clinical activities, and much more. For your business degree, you'll need 30 semester hours as well. You'll take such classes as Marketing Strategy, Economics for Managers, Information Technology and Business Strategy, among others. Because these are two such demanding degrees, we offer great flexibility with your schedule. For instance, while it's ideal that you begin your business classes the summer before medical school, if you've already begun your MD coursework, there are degree plans available to help you complete your MBA curriculum. Some courses may be offered at key times after your second year, and after finishing your USMLE Step 1 exam.
