About the Program

Interested in learning the legal side of public policy and management? Our Department of Political Science & Public Administration has partnered with Samford's Cumberland School of Law to prepare you for a career in government or public interest law.

To get started, you’ll first need to be admitted to both UAB and Samford separately. Then, you’ll embark on 120 semester hours, including 30 hours in our MPA program and 90 in Samford’s JD program. This includes three hours credit for an internship to give you real work experience in public administration. By the time you graduate, you’ll be primed to work on the legal side of political, governmental, nonprofit, or other entities. Best of all, if you participate in this joint degree program full time, you should be able to complete it in as little as three years.
