About the Program

Do you want to make a difference in the fight against cancer? UAB is the only university in the United States with a cancer biology undergraduate program, which means you can get a head start on preparing for a career in research, treatment, and other areas.

To create this one-of-a-kind degree, we brought together high-level educators in both the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. The curriculum is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of cancer cell biology and behavior – something that’s usually reserved for graduate students. And our O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Alabama, means national leaders in both treatment and research will have ties to this program. By the time you graduate, you’ll have learned about areas such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and much more. Our goal is to help put you in a prime position for a career in research, clinical care, health care, and many other fields.
