Mr. Gokmen Pacal was awarded a scholarship from the Academic Small Business Alliance on Sept. 9, 2019.  Gokmen is a graduate student at UAB, pursuing an MSCE degree with emphasis on Transportation under the supervision of Dr. Virginia Sisiopiku. As a Graduate Research Trainee, he is working with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham on the analysis of traffic data for congestion monitoring purposes. His thesis research focuses on the use of connected vehicle (CV) data in support of signal control optimization and management. He currently serves as Vice President of the UAB Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) student Chapter and is a 2018 recipient of the Gulf Region Intelligent Transportation Systems (GRITS) Scholarship.
