There will be a Faculty Senate meeting on Tuesday, September 10th from 7:30-9:15 am in Volker Hall, room 302 at 1670 University Blvd.

2018-2019 Chair, Jamey Worrell will give his final Chair’s report. Chair Worrell will install the new, 2019-2020 Chair of the Faculty, Ria Hearld. Incoming Chair of the Faculty, Ria Hearld, will give her report. Provost and Senior Vice President, Pam Benoit, will give her quarterly report along with Q&A and faculty collaboration session. Provost Benoit will answer and questions regarding the Quarterly Ethics Hotline and Faculty Grievances Report.

Adam McClintock, Director, Institutional Review Board (IRB), will present a collaboration session regarding “Revised Common Rule for IRB: understandings, process, and procedures.” Allison Solomon, Director Disability Support Services, will present a collaboration session regarding “DSS (Disability Support Services).” Q&Aamp;, collaboration, and faculty advisement time will be included in each session.

The Faculty Senate term transition will be completed. A time of questions and answers will be offered so all are clear regarding the new term and roles. The Senate will elect the two 2019-2020 Senators-at-Large on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and vote on the 2019-2020 list of Faculty-Senate Representatives on University-wide Committees. Philip Musa, Chair of the Governance & Operations Committee, will explain attendance at Senate and at committee meetings and will introduce the 2019-2020 Liaisons, explaining the role & answers questions regarding Liaisons.

Chair Hearld will discuss the Faculty Senate Executive Committee Statement on Rejecting Bigotry and Embracing Diversity.

Senate Committee Chairs will report on committee activities. Important information coming out of select university-wide committees will be shared. An open forum time for faculty to raise concerns, ideas and suggestions is also on the agenda.

A full agenda is available on the Faculty Senate document website. Attendance is open to all UAB faculty, students and staff. Attendees are free to come and go as their schedule allows. Breakfast refreshments will be available starting at 7am.

If you need parking for the meeting, you may park in Lot 5A, across University Blvd from the Rec Center, between Volker Hall and the Hill Student Center. Enter on 16th street (side near Volker Hall). Take a ticket when you enter the lot and keep your ticket in your car. Then, at the meeting, please take a parking voucher, available next to the sign-in sheet. You will need both the ticket and the voucher to exit the lot without paying.
