Nominations are being taken for Faculty Senate Chair-elect, Associate Chair of the Faculty Senate, and Faculty Senators for every school/college/the libraries.

Nominations are being accepted online, now through end of Thursday April 1st: Read access instructions on the landing page then click on the link in the “Faculty Senate Nominations” square. If you encounter access issues, please contact the Faculty Senate Office at aileenmc@uab.edu.

The Nomination form is sensitive - follow the instructions carefully.

Be checking your junk-email folder during the nomination period, as emails regarding your colleagues nominating you or self-nomination sometimes go to your junk folder. If a colleague nominates you, you will need to approve the nomination in order to be considered a candidate.

Benefits of serving as a Faculty Senate member:

  • Become more informed: Obtain a deeper and broader understanding of all aspects of UAB activities and mission
  • Become more connected: Opportunity to build relationships and network with faculty across all academic units and Administration
  • Actively implement shared governance: Contribute to supporting and implementing shared governance in UAB initiatives, activities and mission
  • Achieve goals: Work collaboratively to help UAB achieve excellence in teaching, research and community outreach
  • Opportunity: Express and discuss faculty's concerns with UAB leadership
  • Fulfill a university/unit service requirement

All faculty who have a primary appointment as "faculty," and, are eligible for the Teachers Retirement System, and, are able to fulfill the duties of the role [see role description], are eligible to serve as Senators. Once nominated, nominees may submit a candidate statement, if desired, to aileenmc@uab.edu before the first day of voting begins. You may contact the Faculty Senate Office at aileenmc@uab.edu to request examples of candidate statements.

Faculty will have the opportunity to cast approval-votes online in mid-April. Election results will be announced in late-April. The new Faculty Senate term will begin on September 1.
