Abstract
Many educators have never heard of formative assessment or aren’t easily convinced that self- and peer-assessment strategies have a place in higher education. Instructional designers have a unique opportunity to MODEL formative assessment strategies with the use of course review rubrics that facilitate a process that includes self- and peer-assessment of course development. This workshop will describe and discuss a course review system that both models and supports formative assessment strategies in the classroom.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the basics of formative assessment with a brief overview of rubrics, self- and peer-assessment, and the importance of a feedback loop through a learning/assessment process.
Objectives
- Learners will be introduced to formative assessment strategies such as the use of self- and peer-assessments using rubrics
- Learners will be offered free access to a course certification tool that supports and facilitates the formative assessment model at the center of this workshop
