More than 50 doctoral students participated in the 2018 3 Minute Thesis preliminary competition October 2 in the Hill Student Center, and more than half of those students will advance to the semi-finals next week.

3MT at UAB Hosted by UAB Graduate School and developed by The University of Queensland, the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by Ph.D. students. The exercise cultivates students’ academic, presentation and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

Student competitors were divided into nine sessions. A panel of judges from across campus listened and scored each competitor. The three students with the highest scores from each session will advance to the semifinals, which will take place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, in the Hill Student Center ballrooms B, C and D.

The Graduate School would like to thank all of our student participants, as well as those who volunteered their time to judge the competition.
