We'll kick off the week with "Donuts with Mentors/Mentees" from 8 to 10 a.m. outside of Lister Hill Library and the Shelby Building. Mentors, bring your mentees and enjoy a donut on us!!
March 8
"Fostering Effective Communication and Cross-Cultural Competence" workshop presented by Melissa Hawkins. 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Mentoring relationships are inherently individual between mentors and mentees. While this can be a very fruitful experience for mentors and mentees and lead to long-term collaborations and personal relationships, it can also provide an environment for unfortunate communication mishaps. Especially with regards to international postdocs, differences in cultural values or in cross-cultural communication styles can be at the root of potential communication issues. In this workshop, these potential cross-cultural differences will be discussed in the context of the workplace. Participants will learn tools to help encourage effective communication.
March 9
The week continues with the My Story seminar series hosted by GROW. This month's featured speaker is Dr. Pam Benoit, UAB Provost. The online session is from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Meeting ID: 886 8779 8200 | Passcode: MyStory
