We think UAB postdocs rock, and we're showing it with a week full of fun and informative events September 19-23. The 2016 Postdoc Appreciation Week events are planned and sponsored by the UAB Postdoctoral Association and Office of Postdoctoral Education. Mark your calendars for these activities!

Postdoc Appreciation Week Flyer

  • Saturday, September 17, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. - Postdoc Zoo Day
    Bring your family and join your fellow postdocs for a fun day at the Birmingham Zoo then grab lunch (provided) afterward. Purchase your tickets in the postdoc office. Adult $13, Children $9.
  • Monday, September 19, 8 a.m.-10 a.m. - Grab & Go Breakfast
    Breakfast will be in front of Lister Hill and Shelby.
  • Monday, September 19, 12 p.m.-1 p.m. - International Trainee Seminar and Panel
    Have your questions answered about Visas as well as hear from a panel of guests on how they navigated H1B's and Green Cards in academics. The seminar will be in Finley Conference Room and lunch will be served.
  • Tuesday, September 20, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. - Postdoc Appreciation Lunch
    Bring your mentor and join us to thank you for all you do as a postdoc at UAB. Awards will be presented and lunch will be served at the Rec Center.
  • Wednesday, September 21, 12 p.m.-1 p.m. - Converting a CV to a Resume
    Because you can't be a postdoc forever, come to the Hill Center Alumni Theater to prepare a resume for your job search. Bring your CV and we will work to convert it to a resume. Lunch will be served.
  • Thursday, September 22, 12 p.m.-1 p.m. - Financial Literacy
    Learn about managing student loan debt and planning for the future at the Hill Center Alumni Theater. Topics include an overview of FLSA salary and benefit changes, student loan repayment options, retirement savings plans, and financial best practices. Lunch will be served.
  • Friday, September 23, 7:30 p.m. - Postdoc Prom
    Dress to impress and join your fellow postdocs for a night out without the awkward slow dancing of your first prom - at Hotel Highland at 5 Points, 20th Street South. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. Purchase your tickets at the Postdoc Office for $5.
