Innovate Fellow
Akhilesh Wodeyar received his surgical training in oral and maxilla-facial surgery from Mangalore, India and medical training from Georgetown, Guyana.
He practiced in India and Jamaica as a surgeon before landing at UAB as a post-doctoral fellow pursuing research in fluorescence-guided imaging used in the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers.
Akhilesh has spent the last two decades in the global south. His interest lies in finding universal solutions that reach even the most remote end users. He aspires to blend surgery, research and innovation in his career, and he sees the Innovate Fellows program as another vital step towards achieving his goal.
