Benjamin Tuck, M.D., has been appointed to the permanent position of vice chair and director of the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia.
Dr. Tuck graduated from the UAB Heersink School of Medicine in 2007. After completing his anesthesia residency and cardiac anesthesia fellowship in 2013, he joined our faculty as an assistant professor. He was appointed to serve as the interim division director of the CV division in 2017, during which time he helped stabilize the division through numerous changes and actively recruited multiple new faculty members. Dr. Tuck has served on many committees in leadership roles, both for the department and UAB. Most importantly, he has been a true serving leader during the transitional time associated with the recruitment of the Princeton Cardiology group this year.
Dr. Tuck has always remained optimistic, with a willingness to meet challenges head on. His ability to sustain the morale of his team is incredibly admirable. Despite a significant workload, Dr. Tuck, along with his fellowship director, was able to not only expand the cardiac fellowship but recruit one of our best groups for the coming year. Dr. Tuck’s engaging and communicative style serves him well. We are confident that he will be an outstanding steward of the division as we establish the new Cardiovascular Institute here at UAB.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Tuck on this accomplishment and welcome him to the leadership team.
