I am delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Nagi, M.D., as vice chair of the Division of Pain Medicine in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.

Dr. Nagi has served in the role of interim vice chair since May 2022. During that time, his strategic vision and dedication to the department’s mission have been instrumental in driving significant advancements.

Under Dr. Nagi's guidance, the Division of Pain Medicine has experienced remarkable growth in clinical volume, as well as expanded its presence to UAB Medical West and UAB Medicine Lee Branch Primary & Specialty Care. Additionally, our Inpatient Pain Service has broadened its reach to now include UAB Hospital-Highlands, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to providing comprehensive pain management services across the UAB Health System.

Dr. Nagi's consensus-building leadership style and extensive experience within the institution have been pivotal in steering the division toward fiscal independence, positioning us for continued success and impact in the field of pain medicine. His unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care makes him the ideal person to guide the division into the future. I am confident that his collaborative and innovative leadership will help us to grow and excel in all pillars of our academic mission.
