Congratulations to our Division of Molecular and Translational Biomedicine. According to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, which tracks National Institutes of Health funding, our department now ranks 10th among U.S. anesthesiology departments.
Just two years ago, the department was in 30th place. Vice Chair and Division Director Dr. Sadis Matalon, Distinguished Professor and Alice McNeal Endowed Chair of Anesthesiology, says there are several factors that contributed to the division’s success:
Vision and support. “Our chair, Dr. Jones, recruited a number of outstanding faculty, such as Drs. Gu, DeBerry, Harrod, and Ahmad, who brought a large number of NIH grants and strengthened the research environment.”
Dedication, originality, and hard work. “The faculty members conduct world-class basic and translational research, the outcomes of which will improve patient care and benefit the community. The faculty has submitted—and continue to submit—a record number of grants to the NIH, Department of Defense, and other agencies.”
Collaboration. “The UAB environment encourages collaboration and makes it easy to combine efforts so research and grants are outstanding.”
Excellence. “Our administrative staff members greatly facilitate grant submission and post-award management.”
“I would like to thank all the faculty for contributing to this success,” said Dr. Matalon. “The best is yet to come.”
