The American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) awarded UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center Member and Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Professor Monica Argawal, M.D., the Jack Baskin, MD, Endocrine Teaching Award.
Founded in 1991, AACE is a global, inclusive community of more than 5,700 endocrine-focused clinical members, affiliates, and partners. The award is given to an AACE member who has made exceptional and impactful contributions to endocrine-related teaching.
Of Agarwal’s contributions, the AACE writes: “Dr. Agarwal is a distinguished professor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB), specializing in Endocrinology, Nutrition, and Obesity Medicine. As the Director of the UAB Obesity Medicine Fellowship Program and Co-Director of the Clinical Reasoning and Integrated Skills Program (CRISP), she has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical professionals. Her academic journey has significantly impacted the training and development of medical students, residents, fellows, and healthcare professionals, fostering an environment that values excellence, curiosity, and compassion.”
Her contributions include active participation and leadership roles in several committees at the AACE and The Obesity Society (TOS), National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists (NBPNS) as well as involvement with the American Society of Nutrition (ASN) and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).
