As cool mornings begin to break up the summer heat and fall quickly approaches, the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC) is partnering with the UAB Heersink School of Medicine and campus departments to identify and recruit top talent in the field of diabetes research.
Central to its mission to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes, the UCDC is actively recruiting up to 10 faculty to join a core group of members whose research is already dedicated to the field of diabetes. Currently, the center has over 200 faculty members across several schools—largely in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine—and many departments at UAB.
Approved by leadership at UAB, the strategic recruitment process for the center began in spring 2022. Director Anath Shalev, M.D., says that it is an exciting time for the UCDC as it partners with different departments, institutes and the Heersink School of Medicine and embarks on this new phase of growth.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to grow and expand our diabetes research capabilities and translational efforts for the development of better treatment approaches,” said Shalev. “Our existing faculty members are producing promising results in different areas of diabetes and are moving discoveries from bench to bedside. We are looking forward to welcoming dynamic faculty to join this high-performing and highly collaborative group and add to our research possibilities in the center as well as across the Heersink School of Medicine.”
“Incoming faculty will have the unique opportunity to build on the existing foundation that our current members have established over the last 10 years. We further envision that this new faculty will strengthen the ongoing research, bring it to the next level and strategically expand it into not yet fully explored areas, with the resulting impact of this initiative being greater than the sum of its parts ” said Shalev.
The UCDC encourages those interested to stay tuned for additional updates on the faculty who will join the center in the fall and beyond. The best way to keep in touch with the UCDC is to subscribe to our monthly newsletter.
