Two members of the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC) who are faculty in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism were honored at an in-person luncheon on June 29th at 11:30 am at the Hilton Birmingham at UAB.
The ceremony is an opportunity for UAB to thank employees for their longstanding service and to honor their contributions beginning at the 20-year mark of employment and every five years thereafter.
25-year recipients include:
- Fernando Ovalle, M.D., professor and director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism as well as associate director of the UCDC
- Richard Rosenthal, M.D., professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism
Director of the UCDC and Nancy R. and Eugene C. Gwaltney Family Endowed Chair in Juvenile Diabetes Research Anath Shalev, M.D., is proud of the accomplishments of Drs. Ovalle and Rosenthal over their 25-year UAB careers.

Ovalle and Rosenthal are both incredibly committed to treating patients with diabetes,” said Shalev. “Their unwavering commitment to caring for patients, relentless pursuit of knowledge, and ability to inspire those around them have made an indelible mark on the diabetes community in Birmingham and beyond.”
Clinical Operations Administrator Mary Coleman Dobbins is delighted to honor Drs. Ovalle and Rosenthal for their clinical excellence.
