Biography

Dr. Stephen Knight is a Louisiana native, and is a graduate of Louisiana State University. While in undergrad he got his first experience caring for the critically ill while working as an EMT. He received his medical doctorate from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport. Dr. Knight then went on to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Michigan. Upon finishing residency, he remained in the Detroit area, working in the community as well as serving on the EMS medical control boards for the City of Detroit as well as nearby Macomb County.

He joined the UAB faculty in 2019, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine. His primary clinical and research interests include sepsis, pulmonary thromboembolism, and cardiac arrest/post-cardiac arrest care. He attends on the Therapeutic Hypothermia Service at UAB as well as active involvement in the EDICU.

In January 2022, Dr. Knight was appointed to the Alabama American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Board of Directors, and was simultaneously appointed to serve ACEP at the national level as a member of the Emergency Department Accreditation Task Force.

He is supported by his wife, Anna, and 2 wonderful children.
