MedInnovate 550

The UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine is now accepting submissions for the new MedInnovate: Primary Care creative awards program, recognizing our students’ creativity and thought leadership with up to $200,000 in stipends.

UAB medical students are invited to join the journey to redefine primary care through this ground-breaking effort aimed at harnessing their talents to shape the future of health care. Working individually or in teams of up to four, students will focus their energies on one of five distinct categories.

  • AI in Primary Care: Showcase how artificial intelligence can transform the primary care landscape.
  • Hot Topic Curricula: Design courses addressing pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, and other crucial topics in primary care.
  • Express Through Art: Write a poem, draw, or capture an image reflecting the profound value of primary care.
  • Defining Research in Family Medicine: Craft a clear definition of family medicine-centered research and develop a communication toolbox highlighting the significance of research in primary care.
  • Sports Medicine and AI: Illustrate how artificial intelligence can be applied in the field of primary care sports medicine.

“UAB students represent the brightest young minds in medicine, and their ideas really can shape the future of healthcare and contribute to advancements in primary care,” said Irfan Asif, M.D., chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. “We hope that — through the MedInnovate: Primary Care awards — we will not only tap into cutting-edge ideas but also allow students to connect with like-minded peers, mentors, and industry professionals who share a passion for innovation and help implement their ideas.”

The MedInnovate: Primary Care creative award submission deadline is April 29, 2024. Selected individuals and teams will be invited for presentations to primary care leaders as part of the finalist round for award selection. Winners will be announced on May 27 and receive a $10,000 per person stipend (up to four people per team).
