The UAB Sports Medicine team offers a variety of services to UAB Basketball student-athletes, aimed at keeping them in optimal health and helping them to perform at their best on the court.

One of the key services provided to the team is injury prevention. Through sideline coverage and education on proper techniques, the UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine team helps athletes maintain their physical health and prevent injuries from occurring on and off the court.

This season was one to remember for the Blazers as they appeared in the Conference-USA title game and received an invitation to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) shortly after. The Blazers advanced to the championship game of the NIT for the first time in program history.

UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine physician and Medical Director for the UAB Athletic Department, Heath Hale, M.D., M.S., CAQSM, tended to the team during their historic NIT run.

“UAB Basketball is a program with a rich history of success and it was great to witness firsthand the way this group of players continued that tradition through grit and teamwork,” says Dr. Hale. “Working with the players and coaching staff to keep them healthy-- both on and off the court-- was a way in which UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine joined in that spirit of teamwork and thus were a part of that success this season.”

Whether preventing injuries, treating existing conditions, or covering the team courtside, UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine is proud to provide services in promoting the UAB Basketball team’s health and performance.
